The Monthly Favourites: April '13

Last month I missed my favourites, I think I went through a phrase of being stuck in a rut with my make up but now I'm back in action. This month I've gone back to basics with a new tinted moisturiser and neutral make up altogether.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser in Nude has been something I've wanted for a year or so, but after finally getting my hands on a sample, I was in love after one day so I headed over to Selfridges to buy it immediately. I was surprised at the shade range, not the best range for different skin tones, however I found that nude was my perfect shade for the summer. Major plus points as it has SPF 20 in it too and a little goes a long way with this, leaving you with a lightweight flawless finish. Combining it with my next favourite, Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning, I have a great 'summer glow' going on at the moment. On the same shopping trip, I talked myself into getting the self tanner after feeling a little too pale in the sunlight. I apply it at night, as my last step in my skincare routine so that in the morning, I wake up with the 'been out in the sunshine for 2 days' look. Origins GinZing eye cream has been waking me up in the morning and adding a little glow to my face. I apply this under my eyes and along my cheekbones for a little extra highlight, which shows up lovely underneath a tinted moisturiser. I've mentioned this a few times but I'm not a blush gal, I'm only just venturing into that world but starting off with Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blissful, well has been, bliss. It's a perfect peachy pink which gives me a little extra flush to the tops of my cheeks, which helps slim my face slightly. On my eyes, there has been L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte, a gold pearl shimmer. Not only is it great for the eyes, but it doubles up as a highlight for brow bone/tear duct/cheek bones. Be aware it's very extremely pigmented so you don't want to make the mistake I did one day, I was looking a little too glittery. My scent on the month has been Tom Ford Violet Blonde, a musky masculine smell but a little more feminine version of Black Orchid.

I've been sitting reading Allure magazine carefully these past few weeks, trying to educate myself with all the knowledge inside there. I'm passing it onto my sister this week so she can read it too. If only she can pop over to the US every month to get it as I don't feel like buying it for the ridiculous price over here. This month I have new favourite blogger, Suzie from Hello October, someone who I'm constantly chatting with on twitter and someone who has encouraged the majority of my purchases this past month. She works full time and posts every day, major respect to that! I'll be popping over hers in the summer for a cuppa and a rummage in her make up bag...

The Haul: American Beauty Haul

I wish it was me who had just popped over to America for a few days, but unfortunately, it wasn't. My sister went for a short trip to New York, lucky girl, while I went home to see our parents. As soon as she told me she had booked up to go, I went back and watched all of the American YouTuber's videos about their favourite drugstore products and asked Estee from Essie Button on Twitter about what she would suggest for me to get!

My sister kindly brought me back a few things from my extensive list I gave her! Allure magazine was one of the favourite things as I refuse to pay the ridiculous price it goes for in Selfridges. A thick magazine all about beauty, what more could I want? Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blissful, a perfect pinky peach for the summer, which will look gorgeous once I'm a little sunkissed. Wet n Wild Walking on Eggshells has been a palette what I've wanted for months now, it seems to be the perfect every day palette. L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Iced Latte, is a pressed loose powder eyeshadow. I know they're available in England but this colour is only available in America, making me want it even more! I remember I saw Ingrid from Missglamorazzi use it in a tutorial ages ago and since then, I thought it was perfect. I briefly used it today and found that it also doubles up as beautiful highlighter. The Covergirl Lash Blash Volume mascara was something I'd been wanting, well I wanted the Max Factor version but I refuse to pay the amount they are in England, so it was cheaper getting the Covergirl version! The Twilight Woods fragrance mist from Bath & Body Works was something which wasn't on my list, but I know how much stuff my sister bought from there so she couldn't leave me out too! It's such a beautiful scent, something which I could use as a perfume too as it's got such a long lasting power.

Of course I will be doing a review of each of the products, most likely in a 'Whats On My Face' post! What is your favourite drugstore product?

Fragrance: Valentina by Valentino

This is a perfume I've been lusting after for well over a year now and I finally got it for Christmas (is it just me or is perfume a thing you don't buy for yourself?). I had just ran out of my previous perfume, which I was getting a little sick of, so I was so happy when I opened this.

Perfume is different for everyone, whether you like fruity, floral, woody or quite dark scents. I'm definitely into quite floral scents, but also woody scents. Valentina by Valentino is a very sweet crisp floral scent with under notes of fruit in there. It was designed by Olivier Cresp and Alberto Morillas, who are two master perfumers and have created perfumes for various different companies around the world. The top note of the perfume is bergamot and white alba truffles, followed by jasmine, orange blossom and tuberose. It was created to reflected the sophistication of today's Valentino woman.

I'd previously tried this perfume and knew I loved it. Since having it in my possession, I've realised that it does last all day, surprisingly as it's an au da toilette, not parfum which would last a lot longer. For this coming year, this is definitely going to be my signature perfume.

What's your favourite perfume?
