I know that I, as well as other people I know, can sometimes feel as though I’m lacking in inspiration for my blog. I don’t post every day, as I don’t want to put that pressure onto myself as it can sometimes make posts lack quality in my mind. But there are things I will do to inspire myself, which I touched on lightly in my organising post.
The main one is Pinterest, which I'm obsessed with. Whether I want to look at food, clothes or workout tips, it's all there and that's why it's so great. It may push me to make an impulse decision to buy a pair of shoes I don't need, but it's given me plenty of ideas for my blog. That's where I look to for a lot of different ways to photograph things for my blog, whether it's food or beauty. Many different blogs have an option to 'pin' their photos onto your own boards, which I always find is very helpful as I use that option quite a lot. A few of my favourite pinners are Kinfolk Magazine, Cider with Rosie and From Roses.
A lot of my friends are bloggers, which is great as we all share tips and chat about different topics of blogging. This helps me a lot because if I'm lacking inspiration, I will chat with them and ask them to come up with ideas. It could be anything from them suggesting something they have done in a similar way or them telling me to incorporate more of my own life into it. I think this is a huge one as the blogging community is huge and super friendly, you can always make friends and people are always there to help.
Obviously reading different blogs will inspire you, but make sure you don't just create a carbon copy of another blog, even if you do really love it. If you take a lot of inspiration from a certain post, credit that person as it's the nice thing to do. I don't read a huge amount of beauty blogs, mostly lifestyle blogs as that's what I like to read and are trying to put more of into my own blog. Whatever tickles your fancy, I'm sure there is something for you to read.
Alongside that, magazines are a huge one and I'm not talking Marie Claire or Glamour. Magazines such as ID, Cereal or Kinfolk really inspire me as I can see how much hard work goes into them. I don't need to go into how much I love Into The Gloss, an online beauty magazine but that inspires me hugely as I know it's got a great team behind it. Something I have been working on recently is an online magazine called A Little Opulent. It's launching tomorrow and it's such a big deal for a few of us. The two main girls behind it are Jen and Rebecca, who I'm sure you all know and admire. It's been in the works for a while now but the launch day has finally arrived and I couldn't be more excited. It's given me the freedom to write about the things I've wanted to, but I felt I couldn't write about it on here. I know that not everyone has the freedom to write for different sites but if you ever got the chance, jump on it. It's helped me define what I like to write about and rather than having a million different things floating about, it's more defined.
One thing I did touch on in my last post is carrying a notebook with you at all times and I cannot stress how much this helps me. I do a lot of planning on my lunch break at work, so I need the notebook with me. If I think of something, I will jot down a title for the post and a few bullet points for it, before expanding further.
In general day to day life can inspire me, whether that's something my sister has said to me or someone I have spoke to at work. I don't want my blog to be all about beauty now as that's not everything I enjoy. I'm wanting to talk about a little bit of London life, good places to eat and things I do on a weekend. So far it's went down well and I hope that continues in the future.
I would love to know how you stay inspired and what you would like to see from me in the future.
