The Dark Red Lip Edit

The Dark Red Lip Edit.jpg

Let me introduce you to my dark red lipsticks, they are used quite frequently and I'm still finding my favourite one. Some of them may be true reds, but I usually layer them with a darker lip liner so add a little more depth. Don't even get me started on bright reds with an orange undertone...

First up is a classic which is NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, which I'm sure you have read about multiple times. I like these velvet matte lip pencils a lot and although they don't last for hours on end, the colour selection is incredible and they're not drying at all. Another giant lip pencil hybrid is the Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Cassis* which is a dark red which brown undertones. I have to wear this on a day when I'm feeling brave as it's not a shade I would usually go for. One thing I found with the Art Sticks are that they last for ages, I only had to reapply twice throughout work and I didn't even use a lip pencil *shock*.
Back to a classic lip bullet, a cheaper option would be the Model Co Party Proof Lipstick in Red Velvet*. The brand isn't spoken about loads and it's definitely underrated, the party proof lipsticks are very long lasting and are only £12. The only downside is that they're quite hard to find in stores, but readily available online. A classic love is MAC Russian Red which is a very matte red lipstick, but not as drying as Ruby Woo is. When I apply this, I only need to reapply after I have eaten, so it's great for work. It can bleed on my lips so I do tend to use a lip liner with this one. When this one is used up, I will definitely be repurchasing as it's something everyone should have in their collection.
As for lip liners, I have two options, one from Topshop and the other one from NARS. I've had the Topshop offering for over a year now and it's very good, but not matte enough for my liking. It's more of a true red and it's around £8 so a good cheaper alternative. The NARS Lip Liner in Amazon was bought when I was looking for a way to make Cruella look even darker and it works. I usually apply this with most times when I am wearing a red lipstick as it adds more depth to the lipstick.
Not a lipstick and not really red, but Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey* is a good way to ease yourself into wearing a darker shade on lips. Don't worry, it doesn't come out the shade it looks, it's a very sheer deep blackened raisin shade. But I love it a lot and have used half of it already, it's so easy to apply without a mirror so I keep it in my bag at all times.

Which is your favourite dark red lipstick?
