Whenever Suzie comes to London, we always head to a restaurant we haven't been to together before. This time around when we were around central for Fashion Week, we headed to Polpo. I've only been to Polpo once before so I already knew it was going to be delicious. It's a Venetian bacaro, a small restaurant which products small plates of food which are perfect for sharing. Polpo has a few locations around London in Soho, Covent Garden, Notting Hill and Smithfield. They also own Miskins, a favourite of mine in Covent Garden and a few other locations across the city.
Together we shared the classic beef & pork meatballs, arancini and prosciutto, smoked mozzarella and rocket pizzette. Not too much food, but all delicious at the same time. The meatballs arrived in a tomato sauce, which is perfect to be mopped up with some bread. After being spoilt by the arancini in Sicily, I wasn't too impressed with those but still delicious. The pizzette was the star of the meal as smoked mozzarella is one of my favourite things.
I'm eyeing up the sliced flank steak with white truffle cream for the next time I head to Polpo. We saved some space for dessert as we headed to Hummingbird Bakery for cupcakes to take home to watch X Factor with!
At peak times you may have to wait but it'll give you a chance to try the cocktails at the bar in the mean time. I just went with Disaronno and cranberry as that is always my drink of choice.
