My favourite kind of weekends are the ones when you have no concrete plans, yet still manage to have a whole load of fun. That's what happened yesterday when Grace and I both realised that we had nothing to do on Saturday. We were planning on going to our local park, knowing it was going to be a hot day but after reading this post on The Londoner, I ran into Grace's room to suggest the idea of going to Kenwood House. An hour later, after buying a picnic in M&S, we had arrived at the park and fell in love.
Kenwood House is a large stately home, situated at the top of Hampstead Heath, nearby East Finchley/Highgate area. I was very surprised that it was a lot closer to my house than I thought it was, it may become my new running route! It's an English Heritage site which makes it all so much more beautiful. The white house is overlooking a huge grass field and a lake at the bottom of the field, which is surrounded by even more fields. Although I didn't go inside the house, it had amazing architecture, beautiful artwork and gorgeous gardens all around. It's such a hidden gem in London, I can't believe it has taken me so long to go here, especially living so close by.
We had stocked up on food and drinks, blankets and books to last us the afternoon before heading out. After a few hours lay in the sun reading, we had a wander all around the park and the lake before walking back home. I noticed on one of the trails that there is a straight path to Hampstead Heath, which is super handy for going on a hike or walking a dog (one day for me!). Before heading on a walk, we stopped by the cafe for a drink of cold water and an ice cream, I went for the blackberry sorbet which was absolutely delicious. I spent the day wearing this New Look Boho Printed Sundress which I bought on ASOS for the summer. A few weeks back I bought the same dress in a blue and white print and after becoming obsessed with the style, I went hunting for it in another print!
This is definitely my new favourite place in London, so come the next hot weekend, I'll definitely head back for another picnic. Although I'll ensure I apply extra SPF as I was left a little too sunburnt.
