An image which hasn't appeared on my blog before, it's a golden oldie from my 18th birthday in Paris, nearly two years ago!
At the moment, I feel as though I'm a lot more effort into my blog and putting a lot more 'me' into it, rather than it just being about beauty all the time. I'm welcoming summer with open arms and although 6 days a week I am going to be spent inside whether it's working or interning, I'm going to document the days I do have off. To jump start this, here's a little bit more about me and my blog...
When did you start your blog?
I've had this blog for about two years altogether, I just never took it seriously until August last year. I've been a Tumblr user for a long time and I had this as a side part of that blog, but that was until I realised I wanted to blog about my interests.
Have you had an online presence before (other blog, YouTube)?
As mentioned in the last answer, I've been a user of Tumblr, but that's the only other one. Of course, I've been through the Piczo, Bebo and Myspace phrase in the past, but that's something you just don't want to go into.
Why did you start a blog?
I've read blogs for years, whether it was beauty or fashion, I would always read them. I've always had an interest in beauty, partly passed down from my sister, so I think one day I decided I wanted to become of the (of what I thought was) little beauty community and share my thoughts on make up.
When did you become serious about starting a blog?
I don't think I've ever been 'serious' about it. When I first started it properly last August, I changed it from my online inspiration board to my thoughts on beauty. It's opened a lot of doors for me and I wouldn't have many opportunities I have now, but it's nothing serious for me, it's a hobby. It is a big part of my life in a way as it's something I'm extremely proud of me, but it's very small in comparison to others. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm pretty sure this year may see some changes to my little blog.
What was your first post?
Well, I deleted all old old posts so it was a fresh new blog in August, but my first post was on my holiday in Marrakech, link here.
What has been your biggest challenge about blogging?
Trying not to compare myself to other people. As we're all bloggers, we take pictures of ourselves daily (or weekly) and often it's hard not to look at someone and think "I wish my hair was as shiny as her hair". Or even if it's not just about the way someone else looks, I might think "I wish I would afford to buy that". But whenever I do think like this, I just tell myself to shut it and get on with life.
Where do you see your blog in one year?
I can see it just continuing doing what it's doing now, its own little thing in its own time. I have no idea what's going to happen in the next year with my own life, never mind my blog. But I can assure that it's not going anywhere!
What is the most rewarding thing to you about blogging?
I'm not the only one to say this, but it's definitely the community. I have made so many friends through blogging, one being my best friend Bex. From just chatting on Twitter to randomly suggesting we meet up so we're not alone at events, it's the best way to get to know people. Everyone gets along so much, mostly due to the fact we're all interested in the same thing. No matter what the time is, there is someone there to give you a few kind words, whether it's to cheer you up because of a personal life problem, or a blogging problem. Something else what makes blogging amazing is being able to attend London Fashion Week, something I got to do at the beginning of this year. It was a dream come true to sit front row at show, I'm already excited for September to see what will come about!
What is the most discouraging thing that happens to you?
Not much bothers me about it, if I'm going to be honest. Every now and then, I will get a comment telling me my face looks fat in a picture, but I don't take things to heart, especially when I've grown up with this chubby cheeked face! If you've been on Tumblr for a while, you will know that that particular site can be harsh, from people telling you to lose weight to people telling you to kill yourself. I'm quite proud of being thick skinned because unless it's aimed at something in my personal life, I won't let it get me down.
What's your lasting inspiration or motivation?
I find inspiration everywhere! I'm an avid user of Pinterest so I find a lot of inspiration on there, although it usually involves home decor (another passion of mine). I have a list of blogs what I will check every day, who have all inspired me in some way. If there is an interesting in a magazine, I keep it to refer back to when I'm stuck of ideas. Something I find which does help is carrying a little notebook around with me at all times incase I think of an idea, I can write it down. You never know where I could find inspiration, from inside the beauty hall at Liberty or on the tube after looking at that uber cool lady.
Let me know if you have any other ideas of how I could involve my personality in my blog!
