Perfecting The Eye Liner

Now I know I'm not perfect at make up, but there are certain things I've got down to a T, including a smokey eye and blending foundation. But eyeliner, that's a whole different story, I'm basically crap at it.  I try so many times but the line is always wobbly or isn't close enough to my lashes. So I set myself the challenge to perfect eyeliner, whether it's a cat eye or not, just to wear it more often.

I didn't have any gel or cream eyeliners in my collection so that was the first thing to pick up. I've ended up with Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in Brown, Clinique Cream Eyeliner in Black* and Smokey Grey*. I asked on Twitter for the best ones and they all came up top. I've found that I prefer a grey or brown shade as black is a little too harsh for my eyes, I think. I found that the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner lasted the longest on my eyes, as the Clinique Cream Eyeliner did transfer slightly throughout the day. Out of the shades used, I do prefer the smokey grey.
I didn't get along with angled brushes, so a thin brush is great for quickly drawing a thin line. I was quickly able to make it thicker if I needed or to darker any patches of the liner with such a thin brush. Another brush I've been using for eyeliner is one of the new MAC brushes, Linear 1*. At first I expected them to be very rough, however they're incredibly soft. As always, it's a very versatile brush as this can be used for lining the eyes or lips. It's a toughie as I feel as though I need to be shown how to use it correctly, but I'm enjoying using it as it's perfect for short sighted people (ahem, me). Rather than your hand being in front of your face, it's to the side, meaning I can see properly.

Onto pencils and pens designed for eyeliners, which I have plenty to choose from. Collection 2000 Extreme Felt Tip Pen was bought a while ago, so I'm not even sure if it's still available but once it's on, it's not coming off. Compared to others, the nib is rarely thick but it's extremely black and I've been able to create a thin line with it still. Eyeko Skinni Mini Eyeliner was perfect for creating an incredibly thin line, as it's super skinny. I found this when rummaging through my sisters make up and I'm very impressed with it. I have a feeling this is quite old so I might pick up a new one in Space NK soon, possibly the Alexa Chung edition. There's always the classic kohl liner, which I think I have in every colour. The one I've been reaching for the most is Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl in Brown, as it's super creamy and easy to blend. When I'm using kohl, I usually do a rough line along my top lash line and smudge it out with my finger or a cotton bud. I will often use the excess on my bottom lashes to add a little depth.

Now it's time to perfect the cat eye, which I may need help with.
