Since going a lot blonder, I've been on a mission to find the best products to reduce any brassy tones in my hair. I think, I have finally found the best combination for my hair.
Brassy tones annoy me, but not as much as sitting in the hairdressers for 4+ hours, so if I can avoid returning to the hairdressers to touch up my toner/hair colour, I will do it. I have tried so, so many purple shampoos which some people swear by, but honestly, they have not worked for me. I want a shampoo which I am going to see instant results from, not something to use a few times to see results, but again it's because I'm lazy when it comes to washing my hair. This is where this combination comes into action.
Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo is a purple shampoo which actually works and will reduce brassy tones! Just before I first used the product, I was warned not to leave it on for longer than 5 minutes as it will give your hair that lovely old lady purple wash look. Naturally, I tested how long I could leave it on without going purple and it's true that past five minutes, you're left with a hint of purple amongst the blonde hair. All you need to do is wash your hair with your usual shampoo first, as toning shampoo doesn't clean your hair properly, before leaving the Fudge shampoo on for five minutes & wash off.
Another shampoo product to lighten my hair I've tried a few times is the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder In-Shower Lightening Treatment. Not so much about reducing brassy tones, but it does lighten all of your hair in one. It results in your hair looking like you've sat in the sun for a few days, so it's almost like fake tan for your hair, as it gives a subtle lighter shade to your hair. I know a few friends who have used this whole range for so long now and swear by it, as they are naturally blonde so it does work a little better. It's a product I use every now and then in between the purple shampoo to lighten the blonde even more.
If a toning shampoo isn't enough for you, a new product has launched which is to be used in the place of conditioner and I am positively obsessed with it. Oribe Glaze for Beautiful Color is seriously a beautiful product. I was skeptical at first, as what can a glaze actually do for your hair? As it turns out, it can do a lot. As someone who both dyes their hair & also uses a lot of heat on their hair due to my hair being naturally very curly, my hair lacks shine. This product adds the shine but also adds a look to the hair which looks like a highlighter on the strands! I applied this product after using the toning shampoo, left it on for a little over five minutes while I went about shaving my legs before washing it out. My initial thoughts were that my hair felt incredibly soft, which also continued after I had blow dried my hair straight. I didn't notice the gloss/highlighter look until I was in my bathroom, as my hair had this amazing glossy look to it. I have since used it when I was also not using toning shampoo and it still gives off the same look. It's a fairly expensive product to be used every single time you wash your hair, so it's something I like to use every few weeks to make it last a lot longer. It only launched in the UK a week or so ago and it's not online anywhere yet, but do keep an eye out in Space NK for it!
